higher necklines, lower hems

The fashion world is always moving forward and with every new season comes a trend that either fizzles overtime or electrifies our fashion love so strongly that the trend becomes a staple for our own style. What I love about personal style is that it morphs through various stages similarly to our life cycle. The new isn't always based on the old, but the current mod carries the essence of cool style, featuring both classic tailoring and refined details as well as new shapes and feminine silhouettes. The shows at NY Fashion week this past month presented the perfect mix of rustic, sexy and chic. The designers gave us a vibrant lifecycle of fashion and showed us its eclectic and timeless stages. The collections range from casual and comfortable to streamlined and effortlessly elegant. Higher necklines and lower hems are back for more and I couldn't be more excited. The midi skirt can be so chic; worn casually with a great leather coat and some chunky ankle booties and you can't go wrong.

Luscious silks appear in black, white, cream, chartreuse, pink and red. Silk can easily look lifeless and dated if it's not taken care of properly, but I can't seem to find even one flimsy silk dress in these collections. Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung and Narciso Rodriguez hit the nail on the head. Their models resemble modern goddesses in the saturated hues and flowing fabrics. Michael Kors had a show that is elegant and fun which also uses light, airy fabrics that move gently down the runway. His romantic silhouettes are feminine and fine while the touches of leather and fur add that cool, rustic edge that it seems so many designers are going for.

Sweaters galore! Living in Boston has its perks, but eight out of twelve months it is freezing - this time is known as sweater season. Theory and Michael Kors showed us gorgeous, oversized plush sweaters that I'm dying to get myself into for next Fall. Between the thick-knit sweaters and luxurious fur scarves that are expected for fall, I'm confident that I will stay warm. In addition to knits and furs, pointy toe shoes still have my heart and they appear in almost every show. I haven't always been a big open-toe shoe gal, but I'm loving the selection of open-toe booties. If anything was perfect, it was the booties.
