pick a card

Timing is everything.

Think about a time in your life that you were late - or early - or even right on schedule. I hope you realize what each and every step you take does to your life.

What if you leave your apartment to grab a cup of coffee a little later than you had planned.. which because you are rushing, the steaming hot liquid spills all over you. This awful, typical klutzy mess forces you to run back to your apartment, find another blouse that works well with your pants, then scurry three blocks up to the T. On the way to the T, you have to make an abrupt stop and let one obnoxious car speed by. After the car whizzes through a changing yellow light, you decide to continue on your journey at a slower pace in order to save your throbbing feet from a full day of travel and work. Finally you reach the T station, but your Charlie card is almost completely out of money. Fill it, tap it, wait for the slowest moving T in MBTA history. Once you're on, you take a deep breath and turn your music to full volume in hopes that a stranger's conversation won't interrupt your own thoughts. The T driver quietly announces over the speakers that the T which is supposed to bring you all the way to North station is changing its final stop to Park Street station. The T swiftly arrives at Park Street, you jump off and hope that the next T is actually traveling all the way to your destination. You see the next T coming and it is. Wow, that usually doesn't happen. You reach the T stop at North Station, whip out your phone, triple check the train schedule, realize the train leaves twenty minutes later than you thought, look up and something happens. 

Sometimes you wonder - What if my hot coffee had never split all over my blouse, the T took me all the way to my destination to begin with, or I gave myself more necessary time to get ready in the morning. Or if I could read the train schedule correctly. I don't really care - neither should you.

Appreciate those moments.. those wonderful moments that just happen. It's chance. Not fate. Chance.
