monday morning rain
It's raining in the city today. I woke up this morning to the peaceful sound of raindrops gently tapping my bedroom window. I enjoy the sound of the bustling city traffic when it rains - the rushing noise of rain-covered tires. Out my window I found well-dressed business men leaping over puddles en route to their beacon hill offices, students umbrella-less, lugging backpacks filled with a half ton of books to morning classes, and those risk-taking bike riders, pedaling fast, hoping not to catch an edge that will end their flawless, daring journeys. Like all places, the city has a different light in the rain - it's dark and a little gloomy, yet the crisp cool air brings countless moments of clarity. One part of me wants to stay in bed all day, snuggle in my puffy down comforter and write until my mind shuts down. The other part of me wants to throw on my raincoat, open my umbrella, and venture out into the cloudy, wet jungle of people to meet and places to discover.
There is a beauty to the city like no other on a day when it rains. It's an effortless beauty that is overlooked by most and considered a waste of a day by many. I consider rainy days to be most valuable - they give me creative inspiration that usually lasts until the next rain comes.
